Dance shorts

Sunday 8.11 + Q and A

17:00 - 18:30

cinema 1

For this programme, we looked for works in which the languages of dance and film meet as equal partners in conversation. The selected films impress through the interplay between movement and cinematic choices, with dance and film reinforcing, challenging or redefining each other. We present a diverse selection of Belgian dance films, in the belief that dance film deserves more attention. After all, Belgium has a rich tradition in both dance and film, yet the dance film genre often goes unnoticed here. ‘Dance shorts’ wants to change that, and invites everyone to be surprised by dance films that go beyond words.

This programme was curated by Brecht Van Vliet and Astrid De Haes.

Caught between past and future, a woman moves through an abandoned train station, where an invisible presence is hot on her heels. Her fear takes on a gaze. She looks back. What at first hangs in the space as a threat creeps ever closer under her skin. Until the line between fleeing and staying blurs, and the space that held her captive becomes her space. / 2' (2026)
